RESEARCH PROPOSAL ASSESSMENT INFORMATION:

Dear writer, please help me with my Research Proposal “How does intrinsic motivation influence and improve interpersonal communication?”. Please follow the steps below.

Please refer to attachment 2 (2. Use this – Research Proposal – Template.docx) for final submission.

Please follow “Step 2: Write your research proposal” below. The word count will be in Step 2 as well.

The Research Proposal will be based on the recent assignment (Research Team Discussion) that I did. You will need to add more on Research Proposal. Please have a look at my recent assignment in attachment 3 (3. Research Team Discussion – assessment 1.pdf). Please state the AIM, HYPOTHESIS, IV and DV clearly.

Please see page 2 of this document for feedback/suggestion from my lecturer on my research idea for my recent assignment (Research Team Discussion) and also attachment 4 (4. Feedback on the Assessment 1.pdf). Please leverage on my lecturer’s feedback/suggestion.

Please see attachment 6 (6. Template Tipsheet – Research Proposal) for some ideas.

Please also add in references. Add in in-text citation APA 7th style format.

There’s a sample of this assignment that was given by school. Please refer to the sample in attachment 5 (5. Sample of Assignment – Research Proposal_Sam). You can follow this sample of assignment. Please note that the sample of assignment marks is not that good but you will have an idea.

Please refer to the marking guide below on page 3.

Total words I’m asking is 1500 words not more or less.

Thank you so much!

Feedback/Suggestion from my lecturer on my research idea:

Hi Riggy,

This is an interesting research question and definitely falls under the topic of better conversations and motivation. It is clear that you did a lot of reading and thought deeply about how to apply SDT and the overall topic of motivation to communication. You provided a lot of background information and definitions of the terms and theory. Well done on using APA referencing too!

You are on the right track, and here are a few things to consider to refine your ideas further. Please know that this activity is meant to prepare you for your Research Proposal Assignment. You are not expected to know all of these on your first go 🙂

(1)   Research gap and rationale: Many definitions and explanations of theory were provided in your post. Two things that were not as clear were the research gap and your rationale. These are two of the most important sections of a research paper. It would be good to explicitly state what the gap in the research you identified after doing all your reading was (e.g., Research has shown X, but this has not been explored in X…/it is not clear if X will lead to X…). You may find it helpful to refer to Topic 3 in Module 1 for guidance on steps for identifying a research gap. Next, explain why improving interpersonal communication is necessary (rationale), and you might want to relate this to your target population or a real-world problem (e.g., professionals report X in the workplace; thus, it is important to find solutions to combat X). It will be good to state this rationale before going into the solutions you’ve identified (i.e., “asking open-ended questions, offering options, acknowledging the other person’s perspective, giving constructive feedback, and showing empathy”) to improve interpersonal communication. The part that is unclear is why improving interpersonal communication is necessary for your target population.

(2)   Translating it into an experimental design: How would you design an experiment to answer your identified research question? Remember that your research study’s design must show a cause-and-effect relationship—this means it has to be either an experiment or a quasi-experiment. See Topic 2 in Module 3 to learn about the difference. You can also decide if you would like to have a within-subjects, between-subjects, or matched-subjects design. See Topic 3 in Module 3 to learn about the difference.

(3)   Getting into the specifics of your experiment: Once you have decided on an experimental design, the next step is to identify and define/operationalise your independent and dependent variables, determine how you will manipulate your independent variable, select a reliable and valid tool to measure the dependent variable and determine the target population you wish to study this cause-and-effect relationship in. I note that you identified professional and individual connections, so it will be good to narrow this down, for example, adults working in a professional setting or working for X years, aged X. You may find it helpful to refer to Topic 4 in Module 1 for guidance on variables, measurement and identifying participants. You can also look at past literature and published papers to guide your approach.

Hopefully, these points and others your teammates raised will give you some food for thought when writing the research proposal for your next assignment. Great work so far, and best of luck!

Marking Guide:

Criteria

Description

Weight

Content knowledge

●  Clearly and accurately defines and discusses a key concept or theory from the unit that can be used to address the topic question.

●  Demonstrates broad and accurate knowledge of the various aspects of the research process and research design.

30%

Problem solving

●  Defines an important real-world problem related to the topic question.

●  Proposes a viable research idea that could reasonably address this problem and justifies why the research is needed.

●  Applies a systematic approach to problem solving for all research design decisions (outlined in Part 2 of the Template Tipsheet*):

○  Clearly defines each research design problem.

○  Identifies criteria for a successful solution.

○  Generates multiple possible solutions.

○  Evaluates proposed solutions.

○  Provides a compelling justification for the chosen solution.

●  The final research design proposed is practical and feasible and it’s clear how it could make a meaningful contribution to our

understanding of how to solve the bigger real world problem.

15%

Critical thinking

●  Analyses past research evidence to provide a strong rationale for a novel research idea.

●  Critically applies knowledge of research design theory to evaluate research design decisions.

●  Uses sound logical reasoning to support conclusions.

●  Describes all pertinent information to allow a reader to evaluate conclusions for themself.

●  When a limitation is identified it is clear to the reader why this could influence the outcome or the way we interpret the results.

●  Examines multiple perspectives, identifying potential assumptions, errors in reasoning or relevant contextual factors.

15%

Ethical practice

●  Accurately identifies and explains the core practices required to conduct the research in an ethical manner.

●  Considers the diversity of lived experiences and how this might be relevant to the research design or interpretation of findings.

20%

Logical flow & integration

●  Background and rationale section follows a funnel structure:

○  Starts with a broad introduction to the problem.

○  Reviews the past literature.

○  Proceeds to a specific rationale, aim, and hypothesis that follows logically from the above.

●  Research plan section shows a logical sequence of ideas with information discussed in the appropriate subsections.

●  Limitations and future direction section follows a reverse funnel structure:

○  Starts with a discussion of the conclusions that might follow from the research.

○  Moves into an evaluation of the limitations of the research.

○  Ends with future directions.

●  All of the sections hold together cohesively and are centred around a clear purpose.

10%

Written expression & style

●  Written in full prose (i.e., full sentences, paragraph structures, no dot points).

●  Correct spelling, grammar and punctuation.

●  Use of APA style for in-text citations and the reference list.
