Psychology Question
Students are required to keep a “reflection journal” in which they write a brief comment after viewing each film linking some aspect of the film with issues engaged in the course and in the readings during the week. These comments should be between 350-500 words long. The central point is to show that you watched the film, read the weekly course material and have given some thought to the relationship between the themes and ideas in the readings and the films each week of the course. To earn full credit, students must demonstrate knowledge of core arguments and use text from the readings to support claims.
Before writing your reflection journals, make sure that you have the following:
You have a standpoint on the material. What is it? For instance, are corporations instrumental in the maintenance of income inequality? Yes or no–and why do you think so?
You have a good take on how assigned reading(s) engage the topic of interest for the week. (be sure to provide a summary of readings assigned. class notes will not count. if only assigned one author for the week, engage multiple ideas by this person. hint: never skip this part).
You can summarize main ideas within these texts and examples of these ideas from these texts. You also have decided whether or not you agree with the conclusions from the assigned material–and why.
Note: films are not assigned readings but please feel free to include information from films in your reading journal summaries.
Make sure that you have concrete examples from these texts to support your claims and cite accordingly (Davis 2017: 123) is ok; (Davis, 2017: 123) is also ok.
Remember–always, always put material taken from text and used in your write up in quotes. If this does not happen, your work will be flagged for plagiarism.
Now–you are ready to summarize the material for the week–and earn full credit for assignment. Questions about expectations? Please be in touch.
