Personal Leadership Philosophy
In an original project, present your current leadership philosophy as it has been influenced through the course. This project should emerge out of your own understanding of the essence of leadership and the type of leader you intend to become. An individual project, you not only determine what your leadership philosophy is, but also how to best share it, recommended length about 3-5 pages.
Designing your Perceptions of Leaders and Leadership
Effective leaders possess specific traits. The challenge lies in identifying what specific traits fit a specific situation, context, challenge, and group of followers. Likewise, effective leaders have a menu of skills that can be learned and developed as tools for a variety of leadership activities.
Leadership Capacity
The most applicable strengths and skills of a leader may change somewhat over time, but the need for human intervention remains critical. The initial task for designing leadership self is to identify areas of strength and to devise a strategy that will enable taking advantage of these.
Values and Ethics
Your moral development is the result of many influences, mainly family and education. Your growth continues even today.
All aspects of the leadership process comprise decisions, and as such, are filled with ethical challenges. Those challenges, in leadership and life, can be categorized into five domains: academic, family, work, extracurricular, and friendship. It takes a great deal of moral courage to lead and follow.
This assignment will allow you to draw on class themes and concepts to form your own personal leadership design. Think about your perceptions of a leader before this course, draw from our discussion on leadership capacity and reach, and lastly think about your values and what drives you ethically. All these factors can help shape your philosophy on leadership and the leader you would like to be in practice and implementation. Once you identify your philosophy, how will you share it? How will it play out in your interactions with others within your team or organization? What type of culture or environment will you look to create, how can you effectively communicate that?
