Description of the Business
The business involves a small company that offers refuge to single parents who have children not exceeding ten years. The founding thought is that shelter is one of the critical basic needs which every human being needs to have. It can either be a residential facility or a house. In the case of offering refuge, the business intends to come up with a residential facility for the stated group of people. Ultimately, the aim is to assist people get affordable housing and bring to an end the common pattern of families’ homelessness. It is understood that homelessness has a transitory aspect where people need assistance in getting back to their feet to get homes (Bott et al., 2022). The common stereotyping of homeless people is a lack of self-drive and hard work. However, the vindication is not true since most of the targeted people are hardworking. Therefore, they deserve support to get back to being productive in society.
If people are unable to provide basic needs for themselves, then it becomes hard to provide for their families, which causes problems in society. The business aims at helping the beneficiaries cut healthcare expenses, emergency department costs, and the number of inpatient admissions by 59, 61, and 77%, respectively. Some of the benefits to be accrued include permanent housing, job fairs, daycare services, and three free meals daily. There shall be the provision of a voucher by the state to help with rental assistance. A social worker shall be present to help with paperwork, among other sorts of requirements that the beneficiaries may need. Some of the services include job search aid, provision of health care services, rental support, housing, and counseling. The children under the facility shall need to attend a local school, and they shall be served by a bus to help eradicate issues of insecurity issues, especially during curfew times. The ultimate goal is to use education literacy as tool that will equip the capacity of the children when they are grown ups making them able to fend for themselves.
Mission Statement
To provide shelter, food, healthcare, and education to single parents with children not exceeding ten years.
The mission statement above indicates that the company shall provide basic needs to parents and children. The parents need to be single and unable to meet their basic needs. A residential facility is important for them to get their foot back on track so that they can get their housing later. Education is to be provided to little children under ten years. Emotional support will be offered to them to prepare them for what they may face when they get into the world after leaving the facility. The implementation of the mission should help in attaining the vision of the company, which is stated in the subsequent section.
Vision Statement
To ensure an all-inclusive and equal society regarding shelter and eradicate cases of homelessness for single parents and their children.
The vision is to be achieved in the long run after the implementation of the mission of the company. Provision of shelter to homeless people will ensure that they get basic needs, which every human needs to have, thereby bringing inclusivity. Having children educated will empower them and, in return, will help their single parents to move out of the facility by getting their own homes. The creation of rooms by the families moving out will enable new families to be checked in at the facility after some time. The menace of homelessness in the region shall be eradicated with the adoption and startup of more facilities similar to the company. Empowerment of both children and parents by reducing some critical costs such as healthcare and rent will play a major function in the uplifting of lives.
Broad objectives and success measurements
Objective 1
To cut down healthcare expenses, emergency department costs, and the number of inpatient admissions by 59%, 61%, and 77%, respectively.
Action plan 1
Vouchers shall be provided by the single parents that will be admitted to the facility. A specific amount of money will be set aside for the provision of healthcare. The vouchers shall be presented at a designated healthcare facii8ty in times of sickness and emergency treatment. Any single parent at the facility, together with their children, will not need to pay for the full amount of money to get treated since the facility shall subsidize such expenses. Agreements shall be made between the facility and healthcare provider regarding treating the homeless parents. Money shall be deposited to the healthcare facility bank account on an annual basis to cover the medical expenses of the members that would seek their services while in possession of the provided voucher. Special workers shall provide emotional support and counseling services that are connected to the health of a person. Therefore, healthcare services shall be provided to ensure the good general well-being of the residents at the facility.
Measurement parameter 1
The progress of the objective shall be determined using surveys and direct interviews. The interviews will be held by the top management at the healthcare facility regarding inpatient admissions. The numbers shall be analyzed and compared to the previous figures. The costs of healthcare and the emergency department costs shall be determined by doing a survey of the residents. The survey shall be in the form of a questionnaire rolled out specifically on the healthcare costs that they currently incur compared to the former ones.
Objective 2
To reduce cases of homeless single parents by over 70% within 15 years
Action plan 2
The objective will be achieved through the provision of houses to homeless single parents. Selection criteria will be the requirement of having children less than ten years and not being in a position to support them. Most basic needs shall be provided to the stated group of people. However, the program will be structured in a way that the children get educated, and the parents get empowerment so that they soon leave the facility to give room to other beneficiaries. When the people come with a programmed mind of being helped to get back to their feet so that they can get hoes outside the facility after some time, there will be a realization of the objective above. Furthermore, more funding and support shall be sorted to help build other facilities across the country. At the elapse of 5 years, an assessment shall be carried out on the effectiveness of business by considering the number of homeless single parents. The expectation is an eradication of the cases as they shall have found new homes in the residential facility prior to owning their homes after solid establishment.
Measurement parameter 2
The current number of homeless families shall be obtained from the social affairs office. The number shall be considered as the initial figure when determining the percentage reduction of such families. At the end of 15 years, the number of homeless families will be obtained from the same office. The office obtains the statistics through a survey carried out by questionnaires. The figure after 15 years shall be compared to the initial one, and the percentage of homeless single parents shall be obtained. The obtained percentage will be compared to the expected 70% reduction. Achievement of the percentage will inform the achievement of the vision of the company.
Guiding principles
Operating under guiding principles is key for any organization to realize and achieve its short and long-term objectives. The company appreciates the important role that guiding principles are to play towards ensuring its success. It is for that reason that the firm considered having two guiding principles which will be essential in its quest to achieve the desired outcome. The principles are solidly tied to the mission and vision of the firm and its desired spirit and culture. Every stakeholder, whether beneficiaries or workers at the firm, are expected to be guided by the principles.
Service to humanity forms the significant operation principle for this venture since it encompasses all others. Humanity is a basic aspect of human life, and every individual is expected to show concern and offer service to fellow human beings (Osukwu, 2019). It is not morally upright for a person to be in a position to assist homeless families and go ahead ignoring them. Every individual needs to do good for humanity since it is a basic yet fundamental aspect of society. Single parents having children less than ten years go through a lot of struggles to provide for their families. Some of them are not lazy since they get up and work for their family upkeep. All that the parents need is some support to help them concentrate on their provision. As an organization, stepping up to provide support to these families reflects the service to humanity principle.
A second principle is that of inclusivity, which focuses on the inclusion of a diverse workforce to assist the single parents at the facility. Social inclusivity calls for the engagement of a diverse population in any workplace (Khan et al., 2019). Homeless single parents will not be discriminated against based on their origin, social status, or color. As long as they meet the children with less than ten years’ criteria, they will be legible to be admitted to the facility. Furthermore, the selected members of staff who will assist the families with children at the facility will be chosen from a diverse population based on their profession, experience, skills, and desire to serve humanity. Therefore, a diverse workforce and family choice are expected outcomes at the facility to help in achieving the inclusivity principle.
The organization aims to demonstrate value addition and support as another crucial principle. The support comes from different perspectives, including the provision of shelter, healthcare, and education to the affected families. Furthermore, it is expected that when the families graduate from the facility, they will have the ability to own their homes and support their lives. Value addition comes from educating the children of single parents. It will be a must for the children to attend school regardless of whether the parent is unwilling or not. Education is a crucial tool for opening up the potential of an individual towards attaining a better future (Agbedahin, 2019). Therefore, an investment in children’s education is considered as a future asset. That is because the children will help their parents and the society at large when they are out of the facility. The preparation of the adults for the future world in a more organized way compared to how they would be prepared without the facility will help them assist their families in better ways. Finally, the facility aims at offering emotional support to the children to help them grow into responsible citizens.
