In learner centeredness domain, one component I have made progress on is understanding developmental differences and the diverse individual needs of all learners. I learned that I need to have knowledge of every learner’s preference, interests and abilities. I can achieve this by studying their entry behavior and areas where they perform the best. I need to focus on improving those areas. Under discipline, knowledge, and skills, I will promote critical thinking abilities by explaining mathematics and science concepts to learners and encouraging them to teach one another. I will collaborate with students and their families to identify their areas of weaknesses and strengths based on the professional commitment to action domain. For data literacy and research, I will work on the summative assessments to gauge their ability so that I can monitor their progress in examinations and behavior change. In the equity and access domain, one component I will have to perfect on is ensuring learners have access to an equitable learning environment by giving them individual attention to ensure they understand the concept under illustration.
Since I have clear goals and I am aware of where I want to be, I will identify my areas of weakness to maximize my potential by working on how to perfect on them. I believe that one who has goals stands a greater chance of succeeding which I look forward to in the coming semester. This will be a great strategy for measuring my growth.
Through questioning and discussion techniques in the Danielson Domain, learners have to show distinction by assuming considerable responsibility for discussion success through the initiation of topics and making unsolicited contributions to the process (Danielson, 2007). I have managed to make my learners learn from one another through discussion groups and by allowing each one of them to ask a question where they have not understood or respond to a question asked by their peers in the group.
Question 1: How do I manage the classroom environment before delivering content to the learner?
Answer: I realized that establishing a good rapport with learners through greetings and exchanging pleasantries before commencing the lesson would work well to bring their minds to class before I start delivering content to the learners.
Question 2: What is my major role as an instructor in the classroom?
Answer: My role as an instructor is to facilitate the teaching and learning process by making lessons learner-centered where I hear much from learners and provide guidelines on areas, they might have little or no understanding.
