Prompt:
Patients and/or their families may ask what it means to have a particular diagnosis and why specific drug classes are recommended for treatment. The response patients receive frequently determines the course of treatment they agree to pursue. As clinicians, it is important to break down information into pieces patients are able to understand.
In this assignment, you will practice explaining the neurobiology of a disorder (see below for assignment) to a hypothetical patient or a patient’s family member. You will utilize Kaltura to create a video submission. In your video, briefly explain potential contributing factors (genetic, environment, situation) to the disorder. Discuss key neurotransmitters involved and any brain structure changes that may be present. Remember, your “audience” (the patient and/or their family) likely has little to no medical knowledge, so this explanation should be simplified.
If your LAST NAME starts with A through I: Explain Bipolar Disorder
If your LAST NAME starts with J through Q: Explain Schizophrenia
If your LAST NAME starts with R through Z: Explain ADHD
For this assignment:
- Prepare a brief summary of the neurobiology of your assigned disorder (see above for assignment)
