Last week we studied research and this week we are reviewing perception – so let’s combine those insights this week!
By the end of this week, I want you to find and participate in an online experiment in perception. Example websites include:
http://www.labinthewild.org/studies/color_perception/?locale=en (Perception of color)
https://www.labinthewild.org/studies/peripheral-vision/ (Accuracy of peripheral vision)
https://www.labinthewild.org/studies/viz_performance/ (speed at scanning websites)
https://www.labinthewild.org/studies/aesthetics/ (perception of food images, links also to perception of taste)
http://socialintelligence.labinthewild.org/mite/? (perceptions of emotions in faces)
http://www.faceresearch.org/exp/ (Facial perception experiments (will need to create a login, several study options listed))
You may select a different website study. The study just needs to address perception.
After completing the experiment you choose, write your journal submission that briefly describes the purpose of the experiment you participated in (use text and other research to support the constructs of perception addressed if needed) and describe your personal experience and reactions to completing the study while connecting to concepts of sensation and perception. For example, if you participate in a study on attractiveness, how does that knowledge influence us? Do we see evidence from research that is already published that says that we find a certain type of face universally attractive? The purpose of this assignment is to get us into REAL research and to help us to understand how influential our perceptions are in creating our views of reality. Your journal submission should be a minimum of one full page, double spaced, in 12-point font. If appropriate, use APA formatting for in-text citations and listing references at the end of your journal.
