For this assignment, you will write a six-paragraph response. In the response, you will apply terms from Units 1-7 in the EDUC 1300: Learning Frameworks OER Course materials textbook to various characters from The Andromeda Strain. The main characters from the novel include: Dr. Mark Hall, Dr. Jeremy Stone, Dr. Peter Levitt, and Dr. Charles Burton. You must discuss every character at least once in your response.

This assignment is worth 100 points. You will be graded on:

Your understanding of the main concepts.

Your adequate and reasonable application of those concepts to the characters.

Your attention to detail and specific examples.

The quality of your writing (grammar, spelling, etc.).

Whether you answered the identified questions for each paragraph.

Paragraph 1: Values and Beliefs

Write a paragraph about the values and beliefs that helped shape two character’s decision making in the novel. What were some of the main values/beliefs you identified? Discuss some examples from the novel.

Paragraph 2: Goal Theory

Write a paragraph about the goals identified and set by two characters. What short-term and long-term goals did you identify? How did these goals affect the outcome of the story? Discuss some examples from the novel.

Paragraph 3: Attribution Theory

Write a paragraph about the attributions present in the novel. How are the characters influenced by situational and dispositional influences? Identify two characters and explain how each one fell victim to the fundamental attribution error (provide an example for each character). What other attributional biases can you identify and apply from the story?

Paragraph 4: Self- Efficacy

Choose one character who exhibits a high level of self-efficacy. What characteristics indicate high self-efficacy? What expectations does your character have due to their high self-efficacy?

Paragraph 5: Critical Thinking and Problem-Solving

Choose two characters who demonstrate critical thinking and problem-solving skills in the novel. Which steps of the problem-solving process can you identify? Discuss some critical thinking and problem-solving strategies in regard to your characters.

Paragraph 7: Personal Reflection

In The Andromeda Strain, the alien virus that threatens humanity is plausible in the present, and Michael Crichton’s novel is something we as readers may find easy to believe in as a result of the current global pandemic. What impact has coronavirus had on your personal and academic goals/life? What challenges have you encountered in your learning, and what strategies have you learned from this course that may help you overcome some of those challenges? What has attending college during the pandemic taught you about yourself and what you might want for your future?

Format:

Margins should be one inch.

Font should be 12 point Times New Roman.

The heading (on first page only) should include: student name, professor name, class name, and date.

Double space the entire document.

A paragraph has at MINIMUM of five complete sentences.

Outside source:

The ONLY outside source you should consult is EDUC 1300: Learning Frameworks OER Course materials textbook. If you use direct wording from that source, you should include quotation marks around the wording and the page number in parenthesis at the end of the sentence. Any direct wording that is not included in quotation marks is considered plagiarism.

Your project must be original. If your project is plagiarized, you will receive a zero with no chance to revise.
