For this assignment, you will work through the drafting stage of your writing process in an argumentative essay. What is an argumentative essay? An argumentative or persuasive essay
Assignment Instructions:
Read and watch the learning resources provided in the folder: MLA Style Guide, Argumentative Thesis, Mode of Persuasion, Argument in College Writing, Argumentative Essay Instructions, and the Argumentative Essay Examples in Lumen Learning.
Your selected topic should match the pre-assignments completed for the Argumentative Essay series: Annotated Bibliography or works cited page. Do not change topics at this point.
Review the pre-assignments you submitted along with the feedback you received from the instructor. Make adjustments to the assignment in accordance with the feedback. This may include strengthening lines of reasoning, expanding your research, changing the sources for supporting evidence, or adding the correct punctuation and formatting to your citations, etc.
Create your 4-page Argumentative rough draft. It should meet the following requirements.
A two-part thesis including the statement of position; and forecast of your lines of reasoning
A minimum of three to five credible outside sources properly formatted (MLA, Works Cited, and parenthetical citations)
MLA formatting (see the MLA Format page as needed)
Minimum of four (4) full pages, not including the Works Cited page.
Requirements:
Be sure to include the following components:
A credible topic with opposing positions
Your position should:
Have a minimum of three separate lines of reasoning.
The reasoning should support the position with research (example, testimony, fact/data, or any combination) that supports your position; and
Research about the opposing position’s views
Present the opposing views and refute them.
Include a two-part thesis with:
Statement of position; and
Forecast your lines of reasoning
Include a title that implies your position.
Use a sympathetic appeal and/or cited research in the body (only) to establish the issue.
Your voice should be professional and scholarly.
Package your source material with appropriate signaling and commentary.
The rough draft is due Sunday.
