Format: A video-narrated presentation of between 10-15 slides, including cover slide and list of references. Please note that presentation will not be presented to peers and will only be viewed by the professor. Slides are to contain graphics as well as bulleted text. Students are encouraged to start and get their topics approved early as this will reflect in the quality of the work as well as grades. As such, topics should be discussed with me beforehand and are recommended to be approved by Week 4 of the class as a guideline. Topics will not be approved during Week 14.
Citation will be expected according to APA, 7th edition standards (12 pt. font, Times New Roman) Students are encouraged to seek out academic citation support from the Learning Centre early in the course.
Content: Students will work on a presentation based on a social issue or a topic of interest that is sociologically-based.
Sample Topics:
Indigenous issues in workplace
Homelessness in Ontario,
Social determinants of mental health
Classism in healthcare

“Chilly Climate” of Women in Leadership
Femicide in Marriage
Other: Previous students have chosen topics that have appealed to them from the course readings and lecture materials or a social topic related to their chosen vocational pursuits.
To ensure that the scope of the project is realistic, please keep your subject specific or you may run the risk of being too broad with too much to cover.
Research: You will be required to draw on a minimum of 5 peer-reviewed references for this project. Peer-reviewed references are found in academic journals and are passed through a professional committee to ensure the quality and integrity of the work. (Interdisciplinary research is welcome. However, students should try to keep the focus of the paper, sociological). Please keep in mind that when consulting research, research should be weighed for its academic credibility as this will either strengthen or weaken your argument.
You may use interviews, but must follow proper research and ethical guidelines for use of interviewees’ personal information and data.
The academic librarian for Community Services is a good source for students to consult for research support in the Cambrian Library.
