Infographics
Step 1: Watch YouTube Tutorial #1 and answer these questions that follow.

1. What is an infographic?
2. How is making an infographic different from just writing an essay? Explain.
3. What should I consider when planning and creating an infographic?
4. What type of mathematical (numeracy) skills could you use in your infographic?
Step 2: Watch YouTube Tutorial #2 to learn about piktochart, a digital tool that you can use to create an infographic. Feel free to use another online tool to create your infographic (i.e. Canva, etc.).

Step 3: Go to piktochart and create your own account by clicking on “Log-In” in the top right corner of the main page. You’ll need an email account; however, your school Google account should work just fine (student#@pdsb.net). Feel free to use another online tool to create your infographic (i.e. Canva, etc.).
Step 4: Browse the examples included at the bottom of this lesson to familiarize yourself with this form. Respond to the questions that follow each example. Notice the sources/ references are included in small print at the bottom of the infographic.
Step 5: Consider choosing from one of these three topics: sports, health, social justice or culture. You do have the option to pick your own topic, but be sure you do not waste a huge amount of time conducting research; this is intended to be an introduction to creating infographics, There will be limited computer time provided so be sure to choose a different topic that is not difficult to research.
Step 6: Now generate a list of 5-10 more specific questions or issues related to your broad topic of sports, health, social justice or culture.
Examples:
Sports – Women in Professional Sports, Professional Soccer Teams in Europe, Concussions in the NFL
Health – Obesity in America’s Children, Health Benefits of Swimming, Lung Cancer and Smoking
Social Justice: Racism,.Poverty, Ageism,. Censorship, Gun violence, Gender discrimination, etc.
Culture – Best Paid Movie Stars, A Timeline of Beyonce’s Career, Disney Stars All Grown Up

Step 7: Choose ONE MAIN FOCUS for your infographic.
Step 8: Gather information that relates to your topic. You will need to gather data, sort the data, arrange the sorted data, and then create a rough draft of the final infographic.
Step 9: CREATE your infographic and SUBMIT your infographic on Google Classroom.
