Writing Assignment (USE ONLY CHAPTERS 1-14)
Write until the topic is sufficiently addressed.
Select ONE of the diagnoses or abnormal constructs that we covered this semester. Then, refer to earlier in the semester regarding case studies, and review the information regarding case studies and what they are. This will bring us full circle.
Using an internet search engine or some other source such as a textbook, identify a case study that meets the diagnostic criteria for the diagnosis or construct you selected. The case study may be a real person or a fictional character.
You MUST demonstrate evidence of specific behaviors of the case study that meet the specific diagnostic criteria of the diagnosis or the specifics of the construct. Explain the case study. Explain the diagnostic or construct. Explain, in detail, what behaviors meet each diagnostic criterion.
For example, I could select Schizotypal Personality Disorder, then select the character Travis Bickle from the movie Taxi Driver. Then, I would explain, in detail, what Schizotypal PD is, the diagnostic criteria, etc. Then, I’d explain the character Travis Bickle in detail, explain the film. Then, I’d connect specific behaviors of the Bickle to specific diagnostic criteria and justify my diagnosis of the character.
Do not spend an extensive amount of time explaining it like a story. Your focus should be primarily on the disorder / construct and explaining the diagnostic criteria using the character / person you select to demonstrate it via a case study.
