Your paper (8-10 pages + Reference pages) will examine one large American city with a population over 400,000, and one small American City with a population of under 200,000 using the best sources of crime data available.
You will conduct an organizational assessment showing the following: Population, size of agency, officers per capita of population, the annual department budget and authorized number of officers, in addition to the demographics of residents, crime data of two FBI UCR defined Part I crimes and two Part 2 crimes over a comparison of years 2010 & 2020. You will explain the rise or fall in percentages and explain why the positive or negative effects.

Rubric:
An excellent paper will contain, pages of information detailing two real and separate cities of your choosing. Begin with a description of City 1 (Over 400,000 population) and all of the detail requested above. Cite on your reference pages where you located the information.
Create a grid between two years of 2010 & 2020 crime data and explain why crime raised or lowered and what the influences may be attributable (Unemployment, economy, policy, war, court decisions, education, etc.).
Itemize causes and what the data said (2-3 pages). Do not just speculate- find real possible causes and cite them.
Repeat the process for city 2 (under 200,000 population (2-3 pages).
Compare and contrast the two cities in a summary page(s), citing reasons why they were the same of different (more police, better training, better trust with the community, programs, enforcement, weather, education, employment, etc.). (1-2 pages)
Use our resources to apply possible remedies: Family Centered Programs to reduce violence, Community Programs, Alternative Justice, Drug rehabilitation programs, Community Policing, Enforcement Operations- others like education, housing and employment.

A minimum standard paper will reflect most of the information detailed above amounting to 6-8 pages.
Papers that do not include the information required above, spelling, punctuation or lacking accurate references, may result in a less than 50% grade.
