BLACK MEN, CRIMINOLOGY AND CRIMINALIZATION

Term Paper

Categories of analysis, epistemology and theory are neither culturally nor value-neutral ways of representing reality, they most often justify the status quo. The ‘ethnophaulism’ that Black men are criminal or are prone to rape because they are hypersexual and priapic is reproduced in academic discourse, the media and public policy-making. Two options exist: either this ‘ethnophaulism’ is ideologically anti-Black misandry or it is an objective fact of Black men’s ontology.

Term Paper Question:

Does Social Dominance Theory and the SMTH (Subordinate Male Hypothesis) provide a compelling and persuasive way to provide a fully sociological explanation for the criminalization and demonization of Black men over that of Feminist Theory (including Black Feminist Theory) and Orthodox Criminology? Discuss.
