Introduction: Each week we will analyze examples of the ethical and legal
issues that concern patients, providers, and health care organizations. Often a
case-based approach highlights significant ethical and legal issues from these
different perspectives.
In this module we will examine ethical issues from
the perspective of the provider. In the next module we will examine ethical
issues from the perspective of health care organizations.
Description: Watch the movie, Patch
Adams, and examine the ethical and legal issues that
confronted the health care providers in the film. There are a
number of different healthcare providers depicted in the film, such as
physicians, nurses, technicians, and educators. What were some of the ethical
and legal issue that the health care providers demonstrated, either
appropriately or inappropriately?
Complete a reflection/application paper in which
you examine the ethical and legal issues Patch Adams and his colleagues
encountered as health care providers from the perspectives outlined in the
readings and discussions of the week. Be sure to cite the legal and/or ethical
tenant that support your opinions.
Be sure to provide a personal reflection on how you
interpreted the ethical and/or legal issues associated with this case study and
how you would approach these issues from a health care provider’s perspective
if you encountered the issues at work. Support your perspective with references
to the readings and/or videos.
The accumulation of these reflection papers will
provide you with an articulation of your own interpretation toward the ethical
and legal issues of healthcare that will guide your decision making as a health
care leader.
Format: The Case Study should be about two to three pages (500-750
words) in length, following APA format. Submit your paper to the assignment
submission folder located after this page.
