MLA citation and its proper use helps writers avoid plagiarism. Additionally, the citation format allows audiences the opportunity to quickly understand the included research.
This week, you are asked to spend some time with Muhlhausen’s “How the Death Penalty Saves Lives” and Thompson’s “What I Learned from Executing Two Men” found in The Brief Bedford Reader. You will incorporate pieces of the essay in MLA-cited sentences.

Using proper MLA in-text citation and Muhlhausen’s essay:
Write a sentence using the author’s name in a signal phrase and quoting from the article.
Write a sentence quoting from the essay, but do not use the author’s name in the signal phrase.
Write a sentence paraphrasing the article and include the author’s name in the sentence.
Write a sentence paraphrasing the article, but do not include the author’s name in the sentence.
Using proper MLA in-text citation and Thompson’s essay:
