Things to Consider as You Write your EssayIt is important to not re-tell what happens in the memoir, but rather make a claim as to how the author becomes a successful writer and accomplishes her life dream against the odds of being a first-generation Latina university student in a country that does not welcome immigrants.
You will be writing only about the memoir, not about your personal experiences for this essayKeep a third person perspective.
You also must use at least five outside sources (not counting the memoir) to help you analyze the issues being exposed. Be sure to pull in several examples from the novel to illustrate your point. You can use up to two of the readings I provided, but the remaining three have to be your own research using the library databases only.
The final draft should have all of the parts of an academic essay: an introduction paragraph with a thesis, several focused body paragraphs with clear topic sentences, and a conclusion paragraph. It should be at least six- seven pages long.
