For this assignment, you will produce a lab report based on an experiment. You must conduct your own experiment and produce results that can be presented in the correct format, as listed below. Keep the experiments simple. Focus on the organization of the lab report, reporting of data, and style considerations for each section.

The report must include the following sections:
Abstract
Introduction
Materials and Methods
Results
Discussion
Conclusion
References

Select one of these two options:

Simple Experiment
You set out to validate or refute a hypothesis based on some activity you perform using everyday materials and objects. Think back to some of the activities you did in your high school or even grade school science classes. Please do something safe, preferably without fire or acid. Do not recycle an old lab report from another class. This should be something you can complete over the span of a few hours or days.

Thought Experiment
Depending on personal preferences and style, this option may or not suit you. A thought experiment does not require any materials whatsoever—only your imagination. You think of a hypothetical situation and then try to follow it out to its logical conclusion. There are many famous thought experiments from almost every scientific field that you could use to get inspired, such as Schrödinger’s Cat, the Turing Test, the Floating Man, and the Infinite Monkey Theorem (videos available on youtube and posted on BB). In essence, a thought experiment is a work of fiction, though it is based on logical analysis, reproducible results, and the confirmation or refutation of a hypothesis—just like a real experiment.
