Reflect upon the content of the module and interactive class discussion as you formulate honest, deep, and balanced learning reflections. There are two intended learning outcomes: • Evaluate your learning in the cognitive and affective domains. o Reflect on your cognitive (intellectual) learning on the course materials for the week and convey the breadth, depth, and quality of your learning in your essay. o Your affective domain includes learning related to your attitudes, values, emotions, feelings, willingness to explore new ideas, and so on. Convey your development in relation to your perceptions, personal growth and knowledge, and/or values when describing your learning and insights. • Analyze your learning progression (or any lack of progress) and define the next steps. Using prompts to initiate reflective thinking: The prompts in this package are designed to guide your critical thinking and assist you to start the self-reflection process, and self-evaluate your learning
Some suggested prompts to initiate a reflection: ● Consider the nature of your exchanges in the discussion with your colleagues. Assess an important outcome associated with facilitating or participating in meaningful dialogues in a virtual classroom. Did the discussion foster learning? ● Consider a thematic area in HST 219 and reflect on how the materials augmented, reified, challenged, or disrupted your thoughts, intellectual stance, values, beliefs, and so on. [Remember: do not summarize or regurgitate historical details; consider your higher levels of affective or cognitive learning.] ● If you experienced a reaction to any of this week’s materials, consider how that translates to learning in the affective domain. ● Reflect on what you need to do to take your learning to the next level. A few suggestions for this assignment: • A comprehensive and meaningful self-reflection is valued in this assignment. The number of pages is limited for the essay, so choose your words wisely! • Concentrate on developing an analysis that flows well intellectually and conforms to all standards of scholarly writing. “Writing” is a fair portion of your grade, so spend time proofreading and editing your reflection. • As with all assignments, you must cite information from scholarly sources. However, if your reflection is consumed by references and citations, ask yourself if this is a reflection. • Authors may naturally use the first person. However, do so sparingly
