InstructionsOverview
As we have discussed previously, the big paper for this class is problem-solution essay in which you define and analyze a problem, then provide a negotiated solution that takes into account multiple stakeholders. It will turn out to be 12-15 pages. In this second chunk, you will write an argumentative essay that provides a solution to the problem you presented in your issue awareness essay. See the attached file for an example!
Directions
Write to change the world. Chunk 1 of your essay got your audience hungry for a solution to a problem; for this essay, provide that persuasive solution. Your solution must be detailed (Remember: the final draft that combines Chunk 1 and 2 needs to be at least 10 pages) and provide a course of action that can actually be implemented in the real world.
To be successful, you must take into account all the stakeholders—all the different people affected by the problem—and come up with a negotiated solution that can appeal to multiple groups who may have competing values and interests. To be very clear: You cannot write simply to the people who already agree with you, or to “everyone.” You want to write something that could actually make the world different than it is today.
To do that, you’ll need to…
Make clear claims and connect them to evidence in a claim-data-warrant approach
Create unified, cohesive paragraphs
Use refined logic and avoid fallacies
Plant and refute naysayers
Use precise, well-edited language
