Be sure to consider the impact of any literary devices such as foreshadowing or symbolism, and thoroughly explain how they contribute to the development of the theme. Remember, your job as an analyst is NOT to retell the story; your job through your writing is to teach what the story is about at its deepest level…to explain how the parts of the story and the literary devices contribute to the deeper meaning, the theme. Analyze the effect of literary devices and character development on the theme of the story and how it applies to life and/or the human condition. You may wish to consider the role of the storyteller or narrator in the story and literary devices such as humor, voice, symbolism, foreshadowing, or allusion.
