Instructions
Based on this week’s course material (PowerPoint lecture slides, lecture videos and readings), provide specific and detailed response to all of the following questions.  Your response to each question must be about one full page (double spaced) or 400-600 words/question.
Total assignment value is 10 points; each question is worth 2 points
1. What is cultural diversity as anthropologists understand/define it especially in the context of multicultural society as the US?
 
2. How do anthropologists study culture and cultural diversity?
 
3. Discuss how the authors of the main textbook for this class, On Being Different, compare the American TV series Star Trek movie with the American Thanksgiving story. Explain why do you agree or disagree with the authors’ comparison?
4. Explain why anthropologists such as J. Goode are against essentializing culture and cultural boundaries in the US.
 
5. After defining what is meant by ethnocentrism and cultural relativism, provide at least one example of either ethnocentrism or cultural relativism in the US.
