Term Paper OPTION A: Questions
about Infant Development. The purpose of this assignment is to give you an opportunity to
learn more about an aspect of infant development that is of interest to you.
Another point of the assignment is to acquaint you with the research literature
on your topic and enable you to compare scholarly reports of research with
those published in the popular press (e.g., nonscholarly books, magazines, and
newspapers).

How does maltreatment (abuse or neglect) affect early behavior and
development?
Sources
All
sources should be as current as possible, preferably published within the last
5 years. Include at least 10 scholarly sources (research-based journal articles
or chapters).
Guidelines
1.
Your paper should begin with a brief introduction/statement of
your topic (and the controversy surrounding it, if there is one.
2.
The main body of the paper should be a description of your
scholarly sources. For empirical research reports, be sure to identify the
hypothesis or purpose of each study and the methodology that was used (participants,
materials, procedure), and describe the major findings, especially as they
relate to your overall topic.

findings of the studies you found, making explicit the way in which the results
of those studies relate to your main topic/question
(b) reflect on unanswered
questions: what else would you like to know about the topic? what did you
expect to find out about that was missing from the articles you read? are you
satisfied with the methodologies that were used to study your topic? if you
were going to carry out a study of the topic would you do it the same way or
try a different approach? what are the limitations of the findings and the
study? can the results be generalized to people whose culture, sex, or age is
different from the groups who participated in the studies you read about?)

Follow APA style for citing your sources in the text. Include a
separate page — References — on which you give the full citation for each of
your sources.
4.
Submit the first page of each of the sources you use in your
paper.
