8. The authors mention climate change and residential encroachment into wilderness areas as possible causes of fires like this one. Research the connection between climate change and the proliferation of wildfires in California, and report on what you find (in a few sentences).

9. We are currently living through another kind of disaster, the Covid-19 pandemic and its deep impact on all aspects of our lives and society. Identify similarities and differences between the experience of the Camp Fire and other fires like it, and the current Covid-19 situation.

Part 2:
Watch the documentary, Lowland Kids, and identify specific connections between the documentary and the book, Fire in Paradise. What does each text (the book and the documentary) show about climate change and its consequences? How are these texts different in their representations of climate change and its consequences? What do these texts show about the powerlessness of individuals facing forces much bigger than themselves? What do they show about the experiences of “climate change refugees”? Answer any of these questions, writing a few sentences to a paragraph in response, and cite or paraphrase at least two quotes from the documentary.
