 Healthcare initiatives and legislative statues directly affect the abilities for advance practice for registered nurses.  Legislature, such as the state nurse practice acts and scopes of practice, have been written to ensure the practitioner is practicing within a structured set of rules and regulations to ensure public safety in relation to healthcare services received. The foundation of nursing has been built upon providing healthcare that is conducive to improving their patients outcome.  Whether it be related to accurate assessments, critical thinking, implementation of treatment, education etc., our goal as nurses is to preserve the quality of life.
                Hospice and Palliative care are relatively new fields in nursing.
