We have seen what Japanese and Chinese societies are like through the films. In order to further your understanding of the two societies, I would like to ask you to interview a person or persons who have some knowledge about Japan and/or China and the Japanese and/or Chinese culture.
Please prepare a short list of questions based on your readings on Lectures 5 and 6 and the films.
What positive and negative impressions does the person have about the society or both societies?
Can the interviewee provide any information about crime and crime control in Japan/China?
Can he/she offer any explanations of such crime control in Japan/China?
Do you think your interviewee was objective or biased?
Please compare what you learned in the films and what the interviewee told you to get a better picture about Japan and/or China.
Try avoiding the problem of ethnocentrism (e.g. using the American culture as the standard when doing the evaluation).
