The reading material defines a long-term, systems approach to creating value for multiple stakeholders

The reading material defines a long-term, systems approach to creating value for multiple stakeholders including customers, the company, and society.   Some organizations address environmental and societal impacts of their operations through their corporate social responsibility (CSR) programs or departments.  In some organizations, CSR efforts are effective in creating real value for society and make real contributions to their communities.  In other organizations, CSR is used as publicity to serve as “cover” to obscure damage they create in their daily operations.   An example might be a coal mining company that provides financial support to a health organization that treats lung disease while their operations continue to put workers’ health at risk and exhaust harmful chemicals into the air.
