Answer the following questions, after reading the module pages and watching the videos. The main objective of this week’s module questions 
is to begin to understand how images work and how multimodal texts use lots of different modes to create layers and layers of meaning.

(200 words, you will use this in your Project 1 paper) Read the module page “Looking at the communicative artifact: how pictures make meaning” and focus on the discussions of anchoring and semiotics. How do we “know” what the image of a heart or a flower means? Does the heart or the flower mean the same thing for everyone? Define the term “anchoring” and explain where it comes from. Why do writers and composers use text and captions along with an image?  What is the purpose of doing that? What are the two kinds or levels of meaning (hint, from Semiotics).  Give an example from your own experience.
