Please read Chapter 1: “‘They Say:’ Starting with What Others Are Saying” (pp. 19-31) and answer the following questions.

1) Why do Graff, Birkenstein, and Durst state that it is essential to begin one’s argument with “They Say?” Where else should this “they say” be included in one’s argument? 

2) Choose two of the topics listed on pg. 29 (free college tuition at public universities, social media use among teenagers, the value of studying the humanities in college, public-funded clean needle exchanges, assigning homework in elementary school). For each topic, use one of the templates on pages 23-27 to indicate what others have said about this topic.
