HelloNo doubt about it:  Little girls in beauty pageants are hugely controversial!  In case you don’t know the extent of preparation that is associated with this activity, you need to watch this short video clip entitled “Little Miss Perfect” available at YouTube.

Then, you must address the following two issues:
Issue 1.  Are beauty pageants a realistic socialization tool for young girls?  Why or why not?  Two things before answering this question: One, socializing is not the same thing as socialization.  Please familiarize yourself with the sociological definition of socialization before answering this question.  Two, it might be best to glance at this article by Simon Davis.
Issue 2.  Tina, Ashley’s mother in the video clip (or Cherie Wimberly in the written commentary), made the comment that beauty pageants are like sports:  There is much money involved in both, both required extensive practice and training, both are demanding and time consuming.  Why, then, do most people think of beauty pageants as a bad thing for little girls but think of sports as a positive thing for little boys?
