Issue 1. Are beauty pageants a realistic socialization tool for young girls? Why or why not? Two things before answering this question: One, socializing is not the same thing as socialization. Issue 2. Tina, Ashley’s mother in the video clip (or Cherie Wimberly in the written commentary), made the comment that beauty pageants are like sports: There is much money involved in both, both required extensive practice and training, both are demanding and time consuming. Why, then, do most people think of beauty pageants as a bad thing for little girls but think of sports as a positive thing for little boys?
