Purpose: The purpose of this paper is for students to apply their sociological imaginations in an examination of a current social issue (problem).
The paper should exhibit the following student knowledge and skills:
• Sociological Imagination (understanding the multiple levels of society and identifying how factors at all levels of
society affect day-to-day life and historical trends)
• Quantitative literacy (understanding of basic graphs and tables and being able to interpret the numbers provided)
• Critical thinking (applying facts and sociological ideas in an evaluation of a proposed solution to a social issue)
• Effective writing (conveying understanding and logical reasoning in written form, in one’s own words, and using
correct citations)
