Synthesis rough draft

Their work is part of a long history of scholarship in educational linguistics that examines the role of language in education.  For this assignment, imagine that you are writing for audience of first-year graduate students at Penn GSE.  These graduate students are not in the Educational Linguistics Division and don’t know much about the topic of language variation. The goal of your synthesis is to show your readers how and why it is important to pay attention to the ways in which people use language at school.  What does research on this topic tell us?  What are some of the implications of this work (e.g., for teaching, for cultural understanding)?  For this paper, you will use Nero (2006) and Dong (2018), and will find one more article on the similar topic. In organizing your synthesis, you will identity a theme that traverses through the three articles and discuss how the authors’ findings relate to this theme.  Your job is not to compare and contrast the articles.  Likewise, you are notgiving your opinion or evaluation of the articles.  Instead, you are using the articles to highlight and explain the issue of language diversity in educational contexts.
