Following the tragedies in San Bernardino in 2015 where 14 people were killed, and in 2019 at a U.S. naval base in Florida where three sailors were fatally shot, the FBI and Apple had a dispute related to unlocking encrypted iPhones for law enforcement purposes. The debate centered on the owner’s data security and privacy, and the need to prevent crime. For this module’s assignment, address the following in a wrotten report:
Briefly summarize one of the above cases and describe key issues related to the dispute;
Take either Apple’s or the FBI position and argue on behalf of this position;
Recommend a possible compromise position that would have pacified both parties
Note: following the San Bernardino shooting the FBI eventually unlocked the iPhone. Do not take that into consideration while writing your case study. In other words, do not mention this as part of your compromise.
