Excerpt from Community Worker Values:

Decolonization

Many current structures of oppression, particularly those impacting Indigenous and racialized populations, are rooted within centuries of European colonization of lands, resources, bodies and minds. Decolonization is about resisting colonial legacies and restoring Indigenous and racialized identities, histories and knowledges. It is about revitalizing communities through cultural renewal, self-determination and solidarity, while challenging worldviews founded within power, oppression and conquest. Decolonization is about transformation through liberation.
