Police officers, their supervisors and the political subdivision that employs them are subject to civil liability for violations of criminal and civil rights of those which whom they come into contact in an official capacity.

Objective: Discuss explanations for police deviance, its incidence, and controlling methods.
What was the purpose behind the Wickersham and Knapp Commissions? Describe two of the five types of police behaviors that were identified since the Knapp Commission and whether they continue to be present in modern police. Provide examples.
