Introduction to Hypothesis Testing 1

Develop a null hypothesis and an alternative hypothesis based on the data you have collected.

Null hypothesis: According to the data collected, the mean is not the best measure of central tendency. Although every figure is used in its computation when calculating the mean, the mean is not one of the numbers in the sample. Mode is not the best measure of tendency either. This is because mode can be applied when dealing with normal scale data only, and the provided data has only one occurrence for each variable. Therefore, there would be no parameters to measure mode and use it to measure central tendency.

Alternative hypothesis: This research’s premise is the alternative hypothesis I will use. According to the research hypothesis from the data, using the median is a good method to measure central tendency. The median number is easily calculated and is among the numbers in the sample. The research hypothesis also states that physical health and functional health are close. This is because physical exercise enhances the general health state of the body. Physical exercise boosts mental health and physical health. When someone exercises, there is a positive impact on their mental health and physical health, and it is crucial for the general health of both men and women. Physical health is necessary for people’s general health since exercising improves the body’s functioning and reduces the chances of sickness. Physical activities have different effects on people when done in the right way. Physical exercise promotes personal growth and improves a person’s social interactions. Physical health is essential for both adults and young children; however, people have different recommendations for the amount of physical exercise they involve themselves in depending on their ages, health condition, and gender People should ensure they exercise regularly to develop positive effects on their bodies.

Discuss why you have chosen the hypotheses you developed above. Be sure to discuss the concept of the null hypothesis in your response.

I chose the research hypothesis due to various reasons that can be explainable. First, the data given is clear and is the focus of the study. In this case, the research conducted was to find out whether taking part in physical exercise contributes to a person’s general health, and the findings occurred to be true. Since the investigation issue has been tested using evidence, the research hypothesis has been used. For example, it was easy to find the median and measure the central tendency of the number of times the person exercised daily since the number was among the numbers in the sample. Therefore, it represents the time in minutes that was exercised physically without irregularity. Third, the research statements are flexible and relatable since they have been used to investigate the problem of physical health among people and its relevance to the human body, and the positive effects have been listed down. Finally, I used a research hypothesis since the project was a type of case study, and various methods of evidence collection were used. The evidence collected was the benefits physical exercise has to the body in this case.

I excluded the null hypothesis because the data provided had measurable factors. For example, physical exercise has contributed a lot to the body’s general functioning. It has also been proven that physical exercise is important and poses some health benefits. This supporting statements about physical health rule out the null hypothesis. Additional trends showcase that physical health is necessary for people’s general health since exercising improves the body’s functioning and reduces the chances of sickness. Physical activities have different effects on people when done in the right way. Physical exercise promotes personal growth and improves a person’s social interactions.
