Summarizing Models and Explanations for Inheritance of Traits and Organization of Life

In this assignment, you will explain your thinking about ideas from the last two modules. You can either provide a written explanation and/or create a drawing/diagram with labels to show your thinking to two of the prompts below. You need to answer of the four questions (either 1a or 1b AND either 2a or 2b).

Pick one of these two prompts:

1a. Take a moment, stand up from your computer and jump up and down (only do this if it is safe for you to do so). How do the cell parts, cells, tissues, organs, and organ systems in your body interact to be able to jump? In addition to discussing how the parts interact, be sure to give at least two examples for each of these: (1) a cell part, (2) organ, and (3) organ system.

1b. Now, think about a plant growing in the sun near a lake. How are the organs and cell parts of your body that allowed you to jump different from organs and cell parts of the plants that allow them to grow in the sun? How are they similar?  Be sure to provide at least 6 differences and 6 similarities.

Pick one of these two prompts:

2a. In your observations on SeeSaw on Observing Traits of Organisms, you examined the similarities and differences between different individuals of the same species.  Even if the living things you observed had the same parents, they would still have similar and different traits like the kittens in this picture. Explain why the living things of the same species have these similarities and differences. How are these traits passed down? Be sure to explain why the living things are not identical but similar.

2b. Compare how the organisms you observed on SeeSaw reproduces and inherits their traits compared to how a bacteria reproduces and passes down its traits? You can draw or write your thinking.
