INTRODUCTION

This is your introduction and summary – should be 2-3 pages,

Begin this chapter with a brief review of literature (approximately 3 pages with no initial heading beyond the chapter title) that introduces your topic and summarizes previous research – the writings of authorities and studies similar to your project. Include citations within the text for each source.

Use paragraphs to separate out the content into a logical sequence. Consider things like how you might define a particular topic, who else has studied this topic, what variables are associated with your topic, etc.

Then proceed with each of the following Level 1 headings: 

Statement of the Problem

Provides the focus for your project and background supporting the need to address the issue. Should answer the question: ‘What is the research trying to accomplish? Use scholarly literature to support the need to study the problem

Statement of the Purpose

Should answer the question: ‘Why is the research being done?’ Followed by research questions to be answered and/or hypotheses to be tested

Statement of Assumptions

Illustrates what will be taken as a ‘given’ for your specific study, methodology, population, etc.  List variables that will not impinge upon the validity of the study

Statement of Limitations

Illustrates items that might affect reliability of the study. List variables that will not impinge upon the reliability of your specific study, methodology, population, etc.

Statement of Methodology

A descriptive account as to how the investigation will be conducted (details of the research design such as population, how data will be collected, method of data analysis, etc.)

Statement of Terminology

Create an alphabetical list of all terms used in this study that your reader may not be familiar with or may be distinct to your study only, providing a clear definitions of each (with appropriate citation if a source is used)

Compile a list of all sources used, according to APA format (7th edition).

 

Appendix (on a new page)

If applicable, must include a copy of the instrument, survey, interview questions, etc.

Include any pertinent information, letters, handouts, etc.
