Art in Real Life paper: Time Travel Tourist
For the final paper you will choose an artwork from class and write a three- page paper
In which you become the artwork and are magically transported to the modern day. You will then ‘tour’ your neighborhood (or any other you like) and write about your responses to the modern city and the art of today compared with society and the environment in which you were originally made. For example, you might decide that you are the Woman of Willdendorf touring the Lower East Side of Manhattan. What do you notice? What is different from the time in which you were made? What do you think about the art you see there? How do you think art has changed since your day? You can illustrate your paper if you like.
Post your finished paper in Journals.
Checklist:
Image of work and full identification (artist (if known), title of work, date of work, medium, country of origin)
Choose your tour – where will you go, what will you see
Thoughts on art in the past and now in the present
Summary
Cite all of your sources, including image sources
Resource list (bibliography; list your sources)
Project: You are the Artist
For this project, you will make an art work that will reflect your own personal interests. You can make a painting, or a drawing, or a small portable sculpture. Think about what matters to you in your own life, and how you can translate that into a visual image. Think about the artists and the art works we have studied, and how the artists of the past responded to their own lives and cultures. Along with the artwork, you will write a one- page paper describing why you made your work, what it means to you and naming any of the works from class that might have inspired you. Upload a clear well-lit image of your creation and your paper. Post your finished image and paper in Journals. .
Checklist:
Decide on what kind of artwork you will make (the sky’s the limit: drawing, painting, sculpture, make up, food art – up to you)
Notice which of the works we have studied have inspired you
Create your work using materials you have at home (do not go out and buy anything)
Write your process paper: What do you want to say in your art? How does your process reflect this? Which artworks inspired you?
