Strategic Planning Project

Teams of 3 to 4 students will be randomized and auto-enrolled in specific Dropbox folders at the start of the course. Seven team interim strategic planning assignments are required during Weeks 1 – 7, followed by the final team strategic planning project and peer- and self-evaluations required during Week 8. Instructors will randomly assign each team one of the following companies for the project:

American Express (AXP)

Harley-Davidson (HOG)

Bristol-Myers Squibb Company (BMY)

Toyota Motor Corporation (TM)

International Business Machines Corporation (IBM)

A Specific Strategic Plan for One Five-Year Strategy (25 points)

Specific Timeline Chart for Implementation (35 points)

Specific Target Measurements for Success or Failure (40 points)

The number of pages varies by assignment. Excel files (Chart or Matrix) must include a workbook with 3 spreadsheets:

Sheet 1: Name of Assignment, names of team members, date of submission

Sheet 2: Chart or Matrix. Cite your reference sources in the comments section of the chart

Sheet 3: List of references used (APA-style)

Word files must include:

Cover page: Name of assignment, names of team members, date of submission

Body of report: 1 to 2 pages double-spaced pages with 12 pt. font and one-inch margins

Reference page (APA-style)

Each team interim strategic planning assignment is due by Sunday at 11:59 pm C.T. Teams should select one person to upload the final version of each file to the team Dropbox folder.

Final Team Strategic Planning Project

Each team must compile their revised interim assignments into a formal paper that includes the elements outlined below. The final paper must be at least 50 double-spaced pages with 12 pt. font and one-inch margins. All sources must be properly formatted using APA in-text citations and a reference list.

An abstract, summary, or executive summary

Table of Contents

Mission and Vision Statements

Assessment of current strategies and environmental volatility analysis

Targets for Strategic Improvement or Development

Recommended projected strategic plan for the next five years with suggested timelines

Overview of strategy financing

Projected quantitative and qualitative outcomes and financial implications

Estimated strategic impact on corporate resources and competencies

Implementation highlights (targets) of proposed strategies

Functional areas impacted

Impacts if proposed strategies fail

References – at least 15

Appendices

The final team strategic planning project and peer- and self-evaluations which are due by Saturday at 11:59 pm C.T of Week 8, the last day of the course. Teams should select one person to upload the final version of the project to the team Dropbox folder. Grading rubrics are attached to each team project assignment located in the Dropbox area of the course. Late team projects will not be accepted.

Peer- and Self-Evaluations

After you submit the final strategic planning project you will be asked to complete an assessment of each team member including yourself. Evaluation forms will be provided. The peer- and self-evaluations are also due by Saturday at 11:59 pm C.T. of Week 8, the last day of the course. You should upload this individually to the Peer Evaluations Dropbox folder.
