In short, you need to know how to\u00a0navigate the power of decision makers to\u00a0skillfully defend\u00a0or reject policies as they relate to your advocacy goals.<\/p>\n<p>For\u00a0this Discussion, you\u00a0will\u00a0post a video in which you\u00a0artfully and succinctly\u00a0present your\u00a0Social Advocacy Proposal from Week 6.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h4>To Prepare:<\/h4>\n<div id=\"m_-822848584027837283gmail-laureate-rte-04cc02da61\">\n<ul>\n<li>Review Chapter 9 of\u00a0the Jansson\u00a0text. Focus on\u00a0\u201cCombative Persuasion in Step 5 and Step 6.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Develop a list of\u00a0strategies you can use to persuade others who might not share the same concerns about your issues or your policy proposals.<\/li>\n<li>Develop a list of talking points for\u00a0defending your\u00a0Social Advocacy Proposal. Consider the following areas of your proposal:\n<ul>\n<li>Identification of the problem<\/li>\n<li>Overview of existing policy<\/li>\n<li>History of existing policy<\/li>\n<li>Policy impacts on populations<\/li>\n<li>Plan for social advocacy, or goals for change<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Consider the audience for your Social Advocacy Proposal.\n<ul>\n<li>Through which\u00a0group or legislative process did the original policy\u00a0receive approval?<\/li>\n<li>How has the group or process changed since the original policy was approved?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Watch the video in the Required Media this week. How do any\u00a0personal facts\u00a0about you or your audience\u00a0relate to the policy and impact?\u00a0This can help grab your\u00a0audience\u2019s\u00a0attention.<\/li>\n<li><b>Describe the\u00a0Problem:<\/b>\u00a0Present the problem and\u00a0issues with the current policy that attempts to address the problem.\u00a0Explain the impact on specific populations.
