After watching the ‘Coachella: 20 years in the Desert’ documentary, two performances concerning hip-hop culture stood out. One of these performances was Kanye West’s 2011 performance, described as a foundation for hip hop in Coachella. Kanye West’s performance was graced with art and dances, indicating a new era of hip-hop involvement in the Coachella festival (Perkel). During West’s performance, ancient art is displayed behind him, indicating that hip-hop represents particular ideas in the black community.
