Please address this research question using the data set NELS from the sur package. (12 points)

Question 2: Use the opiates data from the socviz package, show and discuss the overall trend of opiates related death rate by states in the Northeast region. You must show both the region average trend and national average trend in your plot. (4 points)

Hints for Question 1:

Below are a few things to think about when you are working on your Question 1 (do not answer them directly in the order that I list them in your report…). Please note that this is NOT a complete list of things to consider, but rather serve to get you started. The best way to approach this is to look at the 5 must-read journal article and get a sense what goes into reporting.

1. Should you provide a description of the overall sample size and where the data are drawn from?

2. Should you provide some description of the measures that you are using in your report? For example, how is self concept measured?

3. Should you provide descriptive stats? Univariate or bivariate or both?

4. Should you provide inferential stats, what do you need to cover?

5. Look at week 11 lab, that includes an example what we typically look at from descriptive to inferential in such kind of analyses.

Submission requirement and grading (same as your replication exercise):

You are required to submit a R markdown file and the HTML that is generated from the R markdown file.

I have uploaded a R markdown start up file to iCollege and you can see a demo. In your R markdown file (and the HTML output), the text will include how the variables are constructed (see my example for the variable online activity), and you are not to show any source code in your HTML file. The only results that you should show from the code chunk should be the Table(s) and the Figures. However, your R markdown file should contain extensive notes within the code chunk showing that you verify your results and ensure that any recoding indeed works as intended.

Below are a few things that will result in very low grade (same as your replication exercise instruction):

Code chunks in your markdown file did not show that you read in the data

Your markdown file and your HTML have no correspondence and simply do not match

Your HTML file shows lots of result output that are not the tables or figures required

Your HTML file only contains the table and the figures, without any writing on the objective, the description of the data, or variable creations

Your markdown file code chunk segments shows no signs that you ever validated whether certain codes work, or work as intended (e.g., checking to see if frequency matches up)

The HTML file is very disorganized and lack of flows.

Your submission are similar or identical to other students.

Data Problem (16 points) Question 1: A researcher is interested in testing whether urbanization level, ses, sex and students’ rating on how much the teachers like students predict self-concept in 12th grade and which predictor has the largest impact.
