Title: Opioid Epidemic \u2013 Early Aged Adults increasing the use of Opioids <\/p>\n
Problem: 1. The problems with the different ways opioids can be injected to get quicker and \u201cmore effective\u201d results. <\/p>\n
2. The time frame it can take to become addicted is as little as 5 days. <\/p>\n
3. The life circumstances that lead a young adult to feel the need to consume or get prescribed to these drugs. <\/p>\n
Target Population: Young aged adults and parents <\/p>\n
Intervention:<\/p>\n
Death rates, abusive use<\/p>\n
Information on the background knowledge of opioids, the different kinds and what they\u2019re supposed to be used for. <\/p>\n
Prescription drug monitoring programs <\/p>\n
Supervised injection facilities <\/p>\n
Rationale: Informing parents on how to avoid the over use, and incorrect usages of these drugs. <\/p>\n
To bring light to positive ways these drugs can effect people. <\/p>\n
To avoid any confusion on the difference between misuse, addiction, abuse and correct usage of these drugs. <\/p>\n
Objectives: <\/p>\n
People will be aware that this is a real life issue and is way more common than people know. <\/p>\n
This is killing humans more often than we think accidentally and purposely <\/p>\n
We are relying on medications to create our happiness and increase our well being instead of finding out for ourselves what we live for and what makes us as humans happy. <\/p>\n
Models \/ Theories: <\/p>\n
My theory is that we get so caught up in feeling absolutely nothing, or absolutely everything all at the same time we get lost in what\u2019s real and what isn\u2019t. <\/p>\n
Technical Approach: <\/p>\n
Prescription Drug monitoring program<\/p>\n
Formulary management strategies and insurance programs such as prior authorization quantity limits and drug utilization review<\/p>\n
Quality improvement programs and healthcare systems to increase implementation of recommended prescribing practices<\/p>\n
Improve awareness and share resources about the risks of prescription opioids and cost of overdose on patients and families<\/p>\n
Patient education on safe storage and disposal of prescription opioids<\/p>\n
State prescription drug laws<\/p>\n
Timeline: <\/p>\n
Measures: From the time they begin taking the opioids to the time they either stop, learn to control their usage, or overdose on the usage. <\/p>\n
Resources: <\/p>\n
Medical funds <\/p>\n
Medical research and data supply <\/p>\n
Marketing: <\/p>\n
Presenting presentations to colleges and home high schools <\/p>\n
Engage in student activities <\/p>\n
Create a way to promote and get the word out by posting around towns, flyers, bill boards etc. <\/p>\n
