1.1 Statement of Career Goals<\/p>\n
After this co-op period, I have a more straightforward goal for the work I want to do in the future. First, the coop made me more interested in supply chain work. Therefore, I plan to work related to supply chain in the future. The work I was engaged in at co-op was related to logistics, during which I had more understanding of logistics work which is strong connected to the supply chain. Therefore, Supply chain work is an essential and fundamental part of many businesses. Only by ensuring the perfection and stability of the supply chain can the company’s various sales strategies be implemented quickly and effectively. The essential things are often the most important. I want to contribute more significantly to my company in my future work. Therefore, I plan to engage in work related to the supply chain. In addition, I plan to stay and work in Canada in the future. In this co-op, my colleagues and superiors were amiable and helpful. As a result, I have a lot of confidence in the working atmosphere in Canada. Working in a relaxed and exciting environment improves my work efficiency and makes my work pressure more effectively converted into motivation. This work experience also gives me a better plan for my future work schedule. But at present, my work schedule will be based on my later life because I hope to balance work and family well. <\/p>\n

This co-op provided me with a good example. My job offers a day shift and a night shift. So, it gives me a good balance between my life and work. The work schedule is the most fundamental part of balancing work and life. Another essential part is the benefits the company provides. Because no matter what kind of work will have an impact on life. I am very passionate about my work, and I enjoy spending time with my friends. I think that my work and personal life are very balanced during the work term, and I have faith I will keep it balanced in the future. I don’t have high salary expectations. I think any job that pays a living wage is a good job. I prefer the benefits of the company such as medical care and paid vacation. I have low salary expectations. Any job that pays a living wage is good. According to Christine Saulnier’s article, living wages in Halifax are $23.5 per hour (Christine Saulnier, September 7, 2022). I’ll be happy with $23.50 per hour. I prefer the benefits of the company such as medical care and paid vacation. Responsibility and rights interact with each other. More power means more responsibility. So, I don’t tend to get a lot of power and responsibility at the beginning of my career. I hope I can gradually gain more rights and assume more important responsibilities as I gain more experience in my work.<\/p>\n
1.2 Plans for Professional Development<\/p>\n
During this work period, I found that although I could handle most of the job well, I still needed a lot of skills and knowledge to deal with the problems encountered in the actual work.<\/p>\n
Some specific certifications that would be beneficial in a career in supply chain management include the Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM) certification from the Institute for Supply Management (ISM), the Certified in Production and Inventory Management (CPIM) certification from the Association for Operations Management (APICS), and the Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP) certification from the Global Supply Chain Council (GSC) (White, 2022). The four certificates mentioned above are the four most mainstream and widely recognized certificates. Olivia Montgomery (2021) indicated that \u201cAPICS certified individuals earn 21 percent more than their non-certified peers.\u201d CSCP certification is a great way to show prospective employers that you have cross-functional knowledge, experience, and skills. After obtaining the CSCP certification, it can be paired with other certifications. Certification in later major supply chain areas such as CPIM and CPSM provides clearer and more beneficial proof to future employers. During this work period, I found that although I could handle most of the job well, I still needed a lot of skills and knowledge to deal with the problems encountered in the actual work. According to Olivia Montgomery (2021), the ACM reports that 64% of people who feel CPIM has had a positive impact on their career and that those who have CPIM will earn 14% more than those who have not. Indeed’s survey found that more than half of those surveyed said CPSM helped them get a job, while 63 percent said CPSM helped them get a higher salary. More than 90 percent said they would seek CPSM certification from family and friends (Montgomery, 2021). Therefore, I plan to have a more detailed understanding of the above certification and obtain the CSCP certification after my university study.<\/p>\n
I also realize that communication skills and emotional management skills are very important in work. The ability to communicate and manage emotions at work is important because it allows employees to effectively interact with each other, resolve conflicts, and collaborate on projects. Additionally, employees who can manage their emotions effectively are less likely to experience stress or anxiety, which can lead to improved work performance. No matter what kind of work I am engaged in in the future, teamwork brought by good communication and good emotional management will make my future work performance better. I will do something to improve my ability to communicate and manage my emotions at work. First, I will exercise my ability to be aware of my feelings and think more about how those emotions affect my interactions with others. As for communication skills, I will start with daily communication. In the future, I will pay more attention to communicating openly with others and be willing to listen. <\/p>\n
In addition, I found that there was still much working software that I could not use flexibly. Therefore, I still need to have a more detailed understanding of Microsoft work software and the common work software in the mainstream of the current society and use it more skillfully. I will read the software documents and instructions more carefully in my spare time and try to understand more simple and convenient tips. In addition, I have learned to improve my proficiency in using the software through continuous practice. <\/p>\n
Besides those three skills I think there another two skills I need to prove. The first one is Project management skills. I will choose more courses that can learn Project Management in the future, and I plan to take Project Management in the future: Beyond planning and control course from Coursera. Another skill is Business skills. A strong understanding of business concepts such as marketing, finance, and accounting will also greatly help the supply chain work. In addition, sufficient knowledge of the entire commerce industry will positively impact my future communication with colleagues in other departments, and mutual understanding can improve our cooperation efficiency.<\/p>\n
To better engage in supply chain-related work in the future, it is necessary to have a full understanding of the entire industry and grasp the real-time information of the supply chain industry. It is extremely important to keep abreast of changes in the industry. After the search, two credible sources of news about the supply chain industry and its practices are the Journal of Business Logistics and the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals (CSCMP). The Journal of Business Logistics is a peer-reviewed journal that publishes research-based articles about all aspects of business logistics. In addition, the journal provides a forum for academics and practitioners to share insights and experiences that improve the understanding and practice of business logistics. The Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals is a professional association that provides education, training, and networking opportunities for supply chain professionals. In addition, the CSCMP publishes a magazine, Supply Chain Quarterly, which includes news and insights about supply chain management practices. Therefore, the two magazines mentioned above, as relatively mainstream, and influential, can provide me with more credible and effective news and practice. <\/p>\n
