I then continued that practice to my own supervisees when I became a BCBA to not only prepare them for working in the field but also to keep myself refreshed on The Code and keep up with the latest updates.

What was an ethical dilemma that the interviewee has encountered – and how it was resolved? Be sure to include the specific Ethics Code when discussing and writing up your reflection.

As an analyst, an ethical dilemma I encountered was after working with a client for an extended period and having behavior reduction/ skills programs reach criteria for discharge, a parent requested further service and implied to “do whatever it takes” to continue. The dilemma was resolved by providing evidence of progress and what other services could be available for her individual/family need asides from ABA therapy.

This dilemma connects to Ethics Code 3.12 Advocating for Appropriate Services and 3.15 Appropriately Discontinuing Services

How does the interviewee approach their own continuing education and professional development in the area of ethical standards? How does the interviewee satisfy the Board requirements for CEUs?

Currently, I try my best to read all newsletters sent to us by the BACB and constantly refresh my knowledge on The Code via training my supervisees. When it comes to CEUs, I do them online via asynchronous lessons and quizzes to fulfill the standard required for BCBAs.

How does the Behavior Analyst work to ensure effective communication with colleagues, parents and clients?

When it comes to communication, I feel it is so easy to lose control of your ability to continue to maintain proper communication and follow up. Whenever I begin working with a new client, I make sure that I meet with all stakeholders and discuss expectations and ensure they receive all the proper information. I also do the same with new supervisees. I am always finding ways to better collaborate with other colleagues, especially since I primary work in a school setting.

What recommendations would the interviewee make for future Behavior Analysts?

Don’t forget your roots. Remember where you started and how you got to where you are now. Everyone deserves your time, dedication, and respect to properly service our clients.

Reflection

What you learned about practice as a Behavior Analyst based on this interview? This is an open-ended question. Reflect on your interviewee’s responses to your questions and the specific Ethics Codes with which they have had experience. Did their handling of an ethical dilemma correspond to the Ethics Code Responsibilities? Would you handle it the same way? Did you learn any ways to avoid Ethical dilemmas or good practice in addressing them?

I have learned that in this field, as a Behavior Analyst, you must always refer to your principles and standards I order to properly service our clients. You must use all resources available to us to find the best solutions to things we face rather than brushing them aside or ignoring them. When discussing the ethical dilemma he encountered, it was related to Ethics Code 3.12 Advocating for Appropriate Services and 3.15 Appropriately Discontinuing Services. 3.12 indicates we must advocate for the appropriate service and levels of service, which is something the BCBA tried doing as the client made the appropriate progress. 3.15 indicates that discharge criteria and reasons need to be included in the service agreement, which in this case it was done properly as well. The BCBA explained to the stakeholders the criteria that was originally established and offered resources to help the family transition out of ABA therapy.

What was the most notable of the interviewee’s responses? Did anything surprise you, or was anything particularly interesting of thought-provoking about your interviewee’s responses?

To me what was more notable was the comments about his recommendations for future Analysts. I feel as a current BCaBA I feel the exact same way in my line of work. More recently than before, I see many Analysts being very disrespectful towards their RBTs and not collaborating with others. Everyone involved in the client’s treatment is just as important and even The Code indicates we should maintain good communication as well as respond in timely manner.

1 Running Head: BCBA INTERVIEW AND REFLECTION Fall 2022, Session B November 23, 2022 Module 7: BCBA Interview and Reflection BCBA Interview and Reflection Interview Jane Doe, BCBA Certificant #: 1-20-65436 State: Coral Gables, FL What were the interviewee’s training/preparation pertaining to ethics?
