Overview:
The protocol assignment is a plan for conducting a review (for example: narrative review, systematic review, meta analysis or the like) of the literature on a particular topic or domain.
If you intend to conduct a review of the literature please complete a Protocol template instead of an ethics form, since reviews do not require ethics approval.
You can if you wish submit your protocol to the register of protocols PROSPERO. This is not a must and therefore please consult your supervisor on this point.
Templates for a protocol are available to download from the moodle page (see section below), and also provided in Appendix D in the module handbook.
Please note that you are required to support your responses with references where relevant.
Word limit: 2500 words ( \/ \u201310%) including appendices.
Please state your paper\u2019s word count on the front page of your paper.
The word count includes citations in text and appendices but excludes the contents of the template and reference list.
For your convenience please calculate your word count in addition the existing template word count.
Drafts: In this module (and in the dissertation module) students are allowed to submit one draft of each component to their supervisor. Draft submission dates are set by supervisors, therefore, please coordinate this submission with your supervisor.

Overview:
The literature review assignment is a discussion of the context and background to your research project. This is required for all types of research: qualitative, quantitative as well as reviews.
The aim of a literature review is to offer the reader an overview of what your project is about, review the existing theoretical and empirical literature on your topic, including definitions and relevant models, highlight the gaps in the literature and present your research question or hypothesis.
It is important that the literature review presents a justification as to why conducting your research is worthwhile. This can be done by highlighting gaps in the extent literature and showing how you intend to address these gaps or showing how your work contributes to past research. This assignment can later be used as the introduction section of your dissertation.
Structure:
The paper should include three sections:
Introduction (approx. 400 words).
Review of the extent literature (approx. 1800 words).
Your research question or hypothesis (approx. 300 words).
Introduction:
It is good practice to start the paper with an introduction in which you set out the basic context and rationale for your research topic, and articulate your research question.
The aim of the introduction is to offer your reader a brief overview of the topic that you intend to study and make a strong statement about your aim and contribution to the extent literature.
It is recommended to begin the first paragraph of the introduction with a few sentences that introduce your topic. Then, please describe the state of research around this topic very briefly. The section usually ends by defining the aim of your research, what you indent to do, and your contribution to this area of research.
Please include references to relevant literature.
