GuidelinesFor this learning activity, you will choose and research a genetic disorder\/birth defect and explore how growth and development of the child and the family could potentially be affected.
Choose 1 of the following genetic disorders\/birth defects: (there is\u00a0 link in the supplemental materials to the rare disease website)
Trisomy 21 (Down Syndrome)
Cystic fibrosis
Pierre-Robin Sequence
Gastroschisis
Galactosemia
Klinefelter Syndrome
Osteogenesis Imperfecta
Rett Syndrome
Spina Bifida
Stargardt’s Disease <\/p>\n
Write out a description of the disorder as you would explain it to a parent.
include a definition (at a basic level) and potential causes\u00a0 <\/p>\n
Explain 1 – 2 ways that the growth and development of the child may be affected\u00a0
Address 1 – 2 ways the family may potentially be affected – relationships, work, home environment
What do you feel you could do as a healthcare professional to help the client and \/or their family?
