either explicitly or implicitly; 4) give background information your readers
need to understand the issue; and 5) properly incorporate and document source
material (providing attribution, parenthetical citations, and a works cited

argues a claim, which is revealed in a thesis statement and supported by at
least three reasons.\u00a0 The evaluation or
definition argument is based on clear criteria. Reasons are supported thoroughly
by evidence. Necessary background information is provided. There are no errors
in logic. <\/p>\n
Organization: (30%) \u2013 The
essay has a clear, emphatic claim. Topic sentences provide the reasons and
effectively link supporting ideas to the thesis. All supporting material is
relevant to the thesis. The introduction and conclusion are effective.\u00a0 Transitions are used where necessary. MLA
internal documentation and Works Cited are correct. <\/p>\n
Style: (20%) \u2013 Writing is
fluent. Word choice is accurate and precise. Appropriate punctuation is used.
Major sentence structure errors are avoided. There are no agreement problems.
