Then consider any organizations that your roommates, best friends, parents, or other family members and extended family members are involved in. Finally, consider your current job or your parents’, friends’, and relatives’ jobs, especially if any of you work for small, local businesses (large businesses tend not to work as well for this project).
For each organization, identify three things:
How are you connected to that organization and their decision-maker? (You need to have a specific, real person’s or real people’s names as your audience). Can you be sure that you will hear back from that person relatively quickly on a regular basis?

In addition, if you are researching the organization, but the audience doesn’t actually have any power to make the changes or decisions you suggest, the project will end up being less useful.

Before proceeding with your project, (definitely before finishing the Proposal, and possibly before writing your post or the Topic Declaration Memo), contact the decision-makers/your audience, and make sure they have the inclination and time to allow you to interview them at some point, conduct a survey with members of their organization, give you information about their organization, or address any other research needs you may have for the duration of the project.

What is the specific need or goal that you can help the organization fulfill? This need or goal will be your project’s topic. Consider needs such as specific equipment that needs to be decided upon, events that need to be reorganized, items or events that need to be promoted, areas of marketing where a company or non-profit could improve, and any other aspects you can think of.

Consider the organization’s or company’s goal, and how you could conduct research that may lead to a specific course of action that would help them reach it more effectively or productively. If you aren’t sure about a company or organization’s needs, ask someone in leadership of the organization! (Be sure to ask either before this post or before the Topic Declaration Memo).

In order to make the best decision about what you can research for your potential audience ask what challenge or problem they may be interested in having you investigate.. (Be sure to point out that they won’t get the results until the end of the semester, so urgent projects don’t work as well, and if you are researching improvement in an event, the recommendations will be for next year rather than this one).

Why is the organization or decision-maker(s) likely to listen to you? That is, what experience, authority, relationship, reputation, etc. do you have that makes you someone who can conduct this research well?

In addition, the actual in-depth research will be conducted by a team (half or one-third of your discussion group, basically), so how is your topic something that a team of students from slightly different majors and at different points in their college career can work together on in order to come up with helpful, reliable, in-depth, recommendations? (Remember not all expertise is subject-matter expertise–students can be potentially good at conducting a survey without knowing a lot of content about the project, as long as someone on the team can direct them).

During conferences and/or office hours, I will be happy to help you consider your project proposals. I may help you come up / with ideas, give feedback on the relative merits of the ideas, or discuss how you may refine an already-selected idea

For Part 1, in 400-500 words, identify three (3) possible research topics and audiences for your Internal Research Proposal. You should begin to consider organizations, groups, or businesses that you have connections to and then any needs or goals the organization might have. For instance, consider any student organizations, volunteer organizations, or religious organizations that you participate in […]

[1
11
post-16520","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-research-paper-writing","tag-english
["GET
